NRSP takes on bias and misrepresentation
in the climate debate
|
The public is being misinformed about
the science of global climate change by many sources –
mass media, politicians, lobby groups and industry. Although
many of these entities honestly believe that what they
are saying is correct, they also all have their own agendas
that in one way or another are served by perpetuating
contemporary misunderstandings about climate science.
In an effort to help the public differentiate
fact from fiction, rational science-based forecasts from
sensationalist speculation, NRSP has established ‘Unreliable
Sources’, a section of our Website devoted to correcting
climate science misrepresentations now heard so loudly
throughout society.
While the scope of this campaign will
eventually cover the full spectrum of information sources
mentioned above, NRSP’s first initiative in the ‘Unreliable
Sources’ project will be an examination of the way
in which the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) –
TV, radio and Website – is handling the reporting of climate
science.
We have chosen CBC as the initial focus
of the project because NRSP participants have a long history
of trying to help the publicly-funded network cover this
issue in an accurate and balanced fashion. Although we
have achieved some level of success working as individuals,
it is clear that a more focused effort is required as
most CBC climate science coverage remains error-riddled
and among the most biased in the English-speaking world.
Helping correct this serious problem is the purpose of
‘CBC Climate Watch’:
